1000 part Puzzle "almost impossible" - Rakaia River "medium"

It’s almost impossible to get a ride out of Christchurch and so we took the bus back to Arthurs Pass. But there, we had no luck with hitchhiking and walked back the 5 km to the trail. The next hut wasn’t far and there, we could be witness of a bandit with only one leg. It’s about the Kea (one of them got really just one leg), the only alpine parat in New Zealand. They take and break everything what they can get without any regrets. Car drivers are frightened to death, because they do prefer window and door rubbers. Good for every single car mechanic.

Every day we are walking 20-35 km within up to 10 hours. Our brains got nothing to do, except talking to yourself. That changed when Eule (Owl) found that crazy puzzle with 1000 parts. After a while everybody got involved and puzzled as best as they could. Letters, bricks, naked skin and strange faces, the puzzle was hard as nail. At midnight, we went to bed, because our eyes were red and our headlamps had no juice anymore. Rested we kept going puzzling and slowly it took shape. We thought to stay there one extra day, just to finish it, but in the early afternoon we gave the responsibility to two hikers and hiked out. There are rumors that it was finished and not a single part was missing. Thumbs up.

The riverbed from the Rakaia River is about 3 km wide and has several little streams. Depending on the weather situation, this river can be very dangerous and that is the reason why the Te Araroa Trust declared this river as a hazard zone. Curious as hell, we had to try it at least. In the party were also Jeremiah, Kelsey and Caroline who thought like the same. We set up our base camp near by the river in order to start as early as possible. The first crossings were really easy but when we reached the other side, the hardest part of the Rakaia River showed up. Instead of crossing the river here, we decided to walk further upstream, because the water was to deep and the current to strong. The key is to cross many little streams instead of one large one. But even the smaller ones were hard to cross. Alone it is almost impossible and so we hooked up each other and did it together as a group. It was much easier and if someone did a wrong step or dripped, the person next to him or her will hold you. After 4 hours, the crossing was done and we were happy that we tried it. But nobody should risk his or her life. Just cross if it’s possible. If not than return and try to hitch around the river. Accidents can occur if people don’t accept it. Be safe.

The weather forecast was very bad. The wind pushed very hard again the hut and you could also smell the rain. Still in the warm sleeping bag and thinking about to hike out it was hard to get up. Just a look outside made this even harder. We jumped in our rain gear and together with Red Bear, Huw and Eule, we started that beautiful day. The little stream which we had to follow turned into a big yellow river over night. We crossed it a few times and sometimes the water was hip deep. There was no end of rain in sight, but when we climbed up to the pass and went down to the valley on the other side, the weather changed rapidly. The bad rain clouds were gone, the sun and the wind dried our clothes and we were able to see the landscape again.
