G'day Te Araroa!!!

We spend two days in Auckland. We took the bus from our campground to downtown.   It was a beautiful day to discover that place. We stood at the traffic light and as it turned green, I stepped almost some people into some heels. Whats going on here? Back in Berlin, everybody is running through the city. But here, everybody is absolutely chilled. It was difficult for me to slow me down. We passed some nice coffee shops, large skyscrapers, the harbor and little shops. We spend some hours to get the last things done. The Albert Park was a nice place to relax and have fun. The days are longer than back in Germany and so we were lost in time. Back in the campground we decide not to spend another day in Auckland. We were ready to hike.

I woke up at 7 o’clock. I couldn’t sleep anymore because today we are hiking out. Slowly, everybody got up. A lot of the campers at the campground offered us food, snacks and drinks. For them, it was  the last day. Trail magic!!! A good breakfast is the best start into the day. Food coma started to spread out. But for this, there was no time. We tore down our camp and that took a while. Torte (Cake) struggled with a stake to get it out of the ground and Eule (owl) did some morning sport. We said goodbye to Sanna. We knew her just two days, but it felt much longer. But we will see us definitely again. Finally, we got out of the campground around 1 p.m., but we still had no resupply. 3 hours later, it was done. Now, its time to hike.

To find the trail wasn’t easy for us. We had to stop very often to check the map. But slowly and surely we got out of town. A lot of people ask us what we are doing. As we mentioned the Te Araroa, we realized that nobody knew this trail. Terry was one of them. When Torte (Cake) got tired, he wanted a sleeping place as soon as possible. Everything is private property and we were not allowed to camp here. So Torte (Cake) rang a bell at a large place. It was an older man who name was Terry. We asked him if we could pitch our tents on his property. He agreed and showed us a place. Thanks for this Terry. We made a got dinner for us and than it was time for sleep.

Terry invited us to a fresh coffee and I got my first interview with him for my movie. We said goodbye and hit the road again. We arrived in Clevedon which was a nice little town. We reached a little sport area where kids has a contest in tug of war. Eule (Owl) yelled over the fence if they need some tough guys. At first Torte and me were in one group with about 10 kids. The lady counted: 3, 2, 1, Goooooo. Everybody was screaming and yelling. Finally, we won that game. Torte changed to the other side and we started the same again. This time Eule and Torte won. We told them that we are hiking the length of New Zealand and all kids screamed again. A last "high five" with everybody and then we kept going.
