Another day on the road

We spend our first zero in Huntly. In town, Eule and Torte struggled with the computer to skype with their partners and I struggled with my blog. But finally, everybody was happy. In Huntly are just 3 place you would like to go. The campground, the library and Countdown the supermarket. I did a run around the little lake behind the camp which was also pretty nice. We still haven’t met any hiker yet. Are we the only one on the trail? Hopefully not. We locked ourselves in the cabin to stay away from the damn sandflies. We enjoyed the last hours from the day to scratch our bites. They are still itching like crazy.

I got my second Interview from Dave who is the manager from the campground. We said goodbye to Carol and Dave and were back on the trail. As we arrived in Ngaruawahia we felt there was something wrong. A short look at the map and it was clear. We walk about 9 km to far. We missed the turn into the woods. After complaining about all the road walking we missed the best part. Damn it. The decision was clear that we are not going back. We have to use the maps more often. There was also no sign for the TA. Maybe I’m a little bit spoiled from the PCT. After Ngaruawahia we hit the road again. Our imagination about the trail were little bit higher as they are. I hope it’s getting better further south. We pitch our tents in a picknick area near Hamilton and we hope not to get caught in the middle of the night. In Hamilton we will stay another night because Torte has its birthday.

We spend our night in the YHA in Hamilton. The owner Yvonne, was a very nice lady. We chat to her for some minutes and went into downtown to buy some gear for Torte. He is the unluckiest tramper on the trail. From the old boots, he got blisters. From his sandals, he got blisters and they fell apart. MP3 Player didn’t turn on and the clip from the hip belt didn’t work as well. Poor guy. Maybe, I should get some donation for him.  After we got these things done something magical happened. We saw after a long long time the Te Araroa sign again. Whop whop. Back in the hostel, we talked a long time to all the travelers. But oh my god. Almost everybody was from Germany. Yvonne told us, she felt like that the Germans invaded her hostel.
