Walachei (somewhere in the bush) or beach???

New Years Eve in the woods and maybe caught in a storm or on the beach. Definitely on the beach. I don’t understand that question. So we went to the tourist info and asked for the price for a bus to New Plymouth. 60 Dollar per person. Maybe we should prefer the woods. No way!!! We will try to hitch hike to New Plymouth. Torte rolled with his eyes because he saw himself still trying to get a ride in the evening. We split up in two groups but with the exception that Torte had somebody with him. Who knows where he would arrive. After almost one hour, Eule drove by in car from an oder lady. She gave us a wave to hop in her car and a bit later we were back in Te Kuiti. One last hitch and we are in New Plymouth. This second time, Sue and Ruth stopped and offered us a ride. But when they saw that we were three people they doubted to get all of us in the car. I have to say, the car wasn’t bigger than my cupboard. But finally we were in. It was tight, very tight. The ladies were in good mood and they told us that they hitch hiked back when they were younger. They wanted to climb Mount Taranaki what worked out for us very well. So they took us to the hut, where  we prepared ourselves for the trip to the summit in the morning.
It was pretty early and we were excited. At first we walked to another hut, which was 1 hour further up. We left everything there what we wouldn’t need for the hike. Warm clothes and food were the only things in our backpack. Ultra light. The beginning was easy. Just stairs. The terrain got more and more difficult. There was a part with loose rocks and a step ascent. We did two steps forwards and one step backwards. The Te Araroa was a good training for us, because we left everyone behind us. Than we got some rock climbing action. That was fun. Close to our goal we just had to cross a small snowfield (including a snowball match) and than the most dangerous part showed up. The rocks were similar to powder and every wrong mistake would be dangerous for the next hiker. So you have to be careful if your are hiking with a group. Keep distance. Mount Taranaki was done. The view was amazing and we celebrated the climb with a tasty TUI. Ruth and Sue also reached the summit. Very impressive for their age. We stayed there for over an hour and than we did our way down to the hut. Glissading and running without breaking our bones made this trip unforgotten.
The ladies gave us a ride to New Plymouth on the next day. We stayed on the campground for a couple of days. We just want to say thank you, Sue and Ruth. It was nice to meet you and we enjoyed that time. The next days, we strayed along the streets in New Plymouth. It is worthwhile to visit that city. Nice shops, cafes and very friendly people where overall here. Te longer we walked around, the more we found. Especially in the evening, there was a light show in the park and handmade music. The weather was very beautiful and so we enjoyed every day in town. New Years Eve was also very nice. There was a party in the bar next to the hostel. In the beginning we got some trouble with the security because of the dress code. Standing in front of him, just dressed with trail runners, short pants and a shirt, he asked me if I had other clothes. I said “No, that would be to heavy”. He talked for a minute to his boss and finally I got in. We danced a lot, enjoyed the beer and the prosecco and were asked to leave the party at 3 o’clock because the party was over. So we kept celebrating in the hostel and went to bed in the late morning. We are wishing all the best for 2015 for everybody. Happy new Year
